COPILOT

Co-creating the next-generation platform for pilot and demonstration infrastructure to accelerate innovation and growth in the EU bioeconomy

Purpose:

The COPILOT project aims to establish a reference database of open-access pilot and demonstration infrastructure in the field of bioeconomy across Europe. It also seeks to standardize and interconnect bioeconomy ecosystems for scale-up, infrastructure providers, innovators, and support environments into a cohesive community. Since pilot and demonstration equipment is costly and requires specialized expertise, open-access infrastructures offer the most cost- and time-effective way to support the introduction of bio-innovations.

Objectives:

Aligned with the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and its Action Plan, the COPILOT project strives to establish a sustainable platform-based database of open-access pilot and demonstration infrastructures that will include:

  • Expertise and achievements from pioneering EU projects (Pilots4U, ESFRI, and BioeconomyVenture),
  • A co-creation dynamic stemming from the community to develop a user-centered platform; inclusive support for participation in COPILOT activities through three open calls,
  • Core services, training, and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration in the bio-community, enabling faster access to scale-up infrastructure in the EU for innovators and support actors.

These activities will be implemented in close cooperation with the entire consortium, which includes experts in bioeconomy (infrastructure providers, associations/partnerships/clusters, and the world’s largest start-up network), ensuring the involvement of all relevant EU regions to maximize the project’s impact and outreach.

Activities:

  • Mapping of the scale-up ecosystem
  • Platform and bio-community development through financial incentives
  • Platform upgrade and promotion
  • Support, training, and advisory services for the bio-community
